British Grove Studios has recently been awarded a prestigious blue plaque for its pivotal role in the creation of one of the most remarkable musical collaborations of our time: Guitar Heroes and the recent recording of Mark Knopfler’s iconic ‘Going Home (Theme from Local Hero).’
This landmark recording, produced by our own Guy Fletcher, was a project of unprecedented scale spanning nearly 3 years, uniting a staggering lineup of legendary artists including Eric Clapton, Brian May, Joan Armatrading, David Gilmour, and many more. The track was created to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America, two organizations dedicated to supporting young people and their families through the challenges of cancer. This charitable purpose underscores the profound impact music can have beyond the studio.

Airsound Spatial
What makes this achievement truly groundbreaking is the role Airsound Spatial played in the mixing process. This project represents a historic first: the initial mixing was completed in Guy Fletcher’s home studio using Airsound Spatial technology, which was then finalized at British Grove Studios. This was the first-ever public release that used Airsound Spatial during the production process, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of spatial audio.
Listening to Guitar Heroes on Airsound Spatial is a profound experience – from the opening notes, featuring the last recording ever made by the late great Jeff Beck.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this extraordinary project. Here’s to continuing to push the boundaries of music and sound while making a difference in the lives of others.
